Purchase College Strong Start Falls Short in Loss to Ramapo

Purchase, NY – Purchase men's tennis, back in match action for the first time in two weeks, started strong against non-conference rival Ramapo College Tuesday night, but couldn't keep pace in singles, falling 6-3 to the Roadrunners.

The Panthers, which opened with two of the three doubles wins, were facing Ramapo in their first contest since taking on Lehman College on March 24. Rain and inclement weather nearly cost the matchup, but the start time was moved up to around 5 p.m., where the two teams braved the chilly Purchase winds to sneak in the contest.

Ramapo has now won two straight, while the Panthers had their four-match win streak snapped in the
loss.

Purchase falls to 6-3. Ramapo improved to 8-2.

The Panthers won at first doubles behind undefeated tandem, Riley Damerell (JR/Rochester, NY) and Joseph Troop (SR/Yonkers, NY). The two collected a hard-fought 8-6 victory, besting Willen Feygin and Matt Goldstein.

Purchase also nabbed an 8-6 win at third doubles as Finbar Stuart (FR/Woodstock, NY) and Isaac Lee (FR/New York, NY) were among the highlights of the night. The two won 8-6 and later Stuart would win the team's only singles match of the day, a 6-3, 6-4 victory against Phil Fuster at No. 5 singles.

Ramapo's Mike Abelev and Adam Petrovics took second doubles 8-0 and then the two also won their singles matches, with the former earning a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 2 and the latter taking fourth singles 6-2, 6-0.

The visitors tied the score on that fourth singles win – 2-2 – and then rallied to finish off the match in victory, collecting wins at No. 1, No. 3, No. 6 and No. 2 singles.

Purchase will look to bounce back. The Panthers return to action Thursday night at home when conference play resumes against reigning champion Yeshiva University. Start time is set for 7:30 p.m
