Buffalo State Women’s Lacrosse loses heartbreaker at Oneonta, 15-14

ONEONTA, N.Y.— Buffalo State had a four-goal lead midway through the second half, but could not hold on as host Oneonta roared back to steal a 15-14 victory today in a SUNYAC contest.

RECORDS: Oneonta (4-8/1-3), Buffalo State (4-9/1-4)

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Alanna Herne (Tonawanda/Tonawanda) and Sarah Lorusso (Lakeview/Frontier) tallied five points each to lead Buffalo State. Herne netted three goals to go with a pair of assists, and Lorusso had two goals and three assists.
  • Christina Krowel (Amsterdam/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) and Cassie Saint-Vil (Middletown/Middletown) added three goals apiece.
  • Kyra Thompson (Massena/Salmon River) chipped in two goals, and Morgan Hogue (Painted Post/Corning) also scored.
  • Buffalo State was in control for much of the game, leading 10-6 at halftime and maintained the four-goal lead at 13-9 with just over 15 minutes remaining.
  • The Red Dragons responded with six-consecutive goals in just less than nine minutes, however.  The Bengals cut the deficit to one with 48 seconds remaining, but were unable to net the equalizer.
  • Oneonta capitalized on a 21-10 advantage in draw controls which proved to be the difference in the game.
  • Elyse Stark (Lido Beach/Long Beach) started in goal for Buffalo State, allowing six goals while making three saves.  Megan Doyle (Palmyra/Palmyra-Macedon) surrendered nine goals and finished with four saves in the second half.

FOR THE FOES
  • Taylor Casey paced Oneonta with five goals and two assists, while Allison Butler scored four times.
  • Jaclyn Marry finished with eight saves to preserve the win.

UP NEXT
Buffalo State will travel to Oswego on Tuesday for another important SUNYAC game at 6 p.m.
