Buffalo State Softball Drops Close Twin Bill at Oneonta

ONEONTA, N.Y.— Buffalo State rallied twice by stranded the tying run twice, dropping both halves of a close SUNYAC doubleheader today at Oneonta, falling 9-7 and 3-2.

GAME 1 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Oneonta – 9, Buffalo State – 7
LOCATION:  Red Dragon Softball Field – Oneonta, N.Y.
RECORDS: Oneonta (10-10/1-2), Buffalo State (9-12/1-4)

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Lexi Haley (Rochester/Aquinas) was 2 for 2 with a double and an RBI, but was also saddled with the loss in the circle, allowing seven hits and just three earned runs.
  • Chrissy Rennard (Brockport/Brockport) was 2 for 4 with a double and three RBIs, and Jean Stahl (W. Seneca/W. Seneca East) was 2 for 4 with two RBIs.
  • Laura Crooks (Niagara Falls/Niagara Wheatfield) and Stephanie Novo (Cheektowaga/Depew) were also both 2 for 4 with two runs scored.
  • The Bengals outhit the Red Dragons 11-7, but Oneonta scored all nine its runs in two innings. 
  • After Buffalo State scored three runs on three hits and three errors in the first inning, the Red Dragons responded with four runs on three hits and a pair of Bengals' miscues in the bottom of the frame.
  • Buffalo State pulled even at 4-4 with a run in the top of the sixth, but Oneonta had an immediate answer again with five runs on four hits in the same inning.
  • The Bengals plated three runs in the seventh, but left the bases loaded to end the game.

FOR THE FOES
  • Ashley Lefebvre was 1 for 3 with a double and three RBIs and six different Red Dragons had one hit apiece.
  • Sabrina DeAngelis earned the win, allowing 11 hits and six earned runs.

GAME 2 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Oneonta – 3, Buffalo State – 2
LOCATION:  Red Dragon Softball Field – Oneonta, N.Y.
RECORDS: Oneonta (11-10/2-2), Buffalo State (9-13/1-5)

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Jordan Sarat (Caledonia/Caledonia-Mumford) threw well for the third-consecutive start, but came out on the short end, allowing just six hits and three earned runs.
  • Melissa Woods (Lakeview/Frontier) was the only Bengal with multiple hits, going 2 for 3. 
  • Laura Crooks (Niagara Falls/Niagara Wheatfield) finished 1 for 3 with an RBI.
  • Oneonta scored one run in each the third, fourth and fifth innings to take a 3-1 lead.  Buffalo State pulled to within one, scoring on an error and putting runners on second and third with one out, but was unable to get the tying run across.

FOR THE FOES
  • Amanda Graziano quieted the SUNYAC's best hitting team, allowing just five hits and one earned run with five strikeouts. 
  • Kate O'Gorman was 2 for 3 with a double, a home run and two RBIs.
