OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's lacrosse team opened its 2016
campaign with a 15-4 victory over SUNY Poly in the first-ever lacrosse
game at Laker Turf Stadium. With the victory, the Lakers are 1-0 while
the Wildcats drop to 1-2.
Oswego scored the contest's first 10
goals, not allowing a SUNY Poly tally until just before halftime. The
Lakers took a 10-1 advantage into the break and outscored their opponent
5-3 in the final two quarters to lock-up the triumph.
James Lennon and Mark Frega
paced the home team in the tilt, each recording four-point outings.
Lennon was balanced with two goals and two assists while Frega turned in
four helpers. Ryan Jelen and Luke Krizman were the top scorers on the day, each recording three goals. Finishing with two-point efforts were Bobby Emerson (two goals), Zach Anderson (one goal, one assist), and Tom Herbert (two goals). Rounding out the Laker point-getters were Tyler Nason (one goal), Peter Gryga (one assist) and Andrew Burlew (one goal).
Tim Garrett
had a team-high nine groundballs, followed by Emerson and Anderson's
four apiece. Emerson and Lennon led Oswego with two caused turnovers
each.
In the faceoff circle, Chase Izyk won 13 of his 19 chances while Gryga was 2-for-4. The net was minded by two Lakers on Saturday, with Wyatt Russo getting the start. Russo made five saves in the first half, garnering the victory. Troy Calkin played the game's final 30 minutes, registering six saves.
Oswego will return to the field at 4 p.m. on Wednesday when it faces its first road test against the Bombers of Ithaca College.
