ONEONTA, New York - Coast Guard got off to an excellent
start as they won their first two matches 3-0 against Nazareth and
Elmira at the Hartwick/Holiday Inn Invitational.
With the two wins the Bears improve to 10-5 on the season while Nazareth drops to 11-8 overall and Elmira slips to 8-6.
In the first match against the Nazareth College Golden Flyers the Bears won in straight sets, 26-24,
25-20, 25-21. Sophomore Madison Scott hit an outstanding .727 with nine kills and 5.5 blocks while junior Susan West had 14 kills, six digs, and hit at a.434 clip.
Senior Maggie Hine added 34 assists with eight digs while sophomore Michelle McGill had eight digs of her own.
In the second match against the Elmira Soaring Eagles, Coast Guard
battled them through three sets winning 25-22, 27-25, and 25-19.
It was another monster match for Scott as she had 11 kills, three blocks, and her hitting percentage was .667. Senior Ashley Dumont had nine kills to go with 1.5 blocks and hit .409.
Hine had another solid match with 26 assists and eight digs while, McGill had 11 digs.
"I really liked what we did on the court today, said head coach Mike
Bynon. "We had the chance to play two solid out of region teams and
represent our school and conference well."
The Bears are back on the court today as they have two more
matches at the Hartwick/Holiday Inn Invitational with matches against
Morrisville State and host Hartwick. Matches are 10:00 and 2:00.
