COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado (Nov. 19, 2021) - Jason Brown is in podium position after the first day of competition at Internationaux de France in Grenoble, finishing third in the men’s short program. The competition kicked off on Friday morning and will conclude on Saturday, Nov. 20.
Brown earned 89.39 points for his performance to “Sinnerman” by Nina
Japan’s Yuma Kagiyama is in first after the short with 100.64 points, while Latvia’s Deniss Vasiljevs is in second with 89.76.
In the pairs event, Alexa Knierim and Brandon Frazier placed fourth in the short program with 70.15 points. The 2021 U.S. champions received the second highest program components score with 33.57 points.
Russian teams hold the top two spots with Aleksandra Boikova and Dmitrii Kozlovskii in first (77.17), and Iuliia Artemeva Mikhail Nazarychev in second (73.02). Canada’s Vanessa James and Eric Radford are in third with 71.84 points.
Christina Carreira and Anthony Ponomarenko are in fourth place after the rhythm dance with 70.74 points. Their performance to “Batdance” by Prince opened with Level 4 twizzles and closed with a Level 4 rotational lift.
France’s Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron are in first place with 89.08 points. Canadians Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier are in second with 81.35, and Russia’s Alexandra Stepanova and Ivan Bukin are in third with 79.89.
Karen Chen leads the U.S. women’s contingent after the short program, finishing fifth with 64.67 points. Her Lady Caliph program included a triple Lutz-double toe loop combination and two Level 4 spins.
In her first Grand Prix appearance of the season, Mariah Bell placed 10th in the short program with 60.81 points.
Starr Andrews withdrew from competition during the short program due to injury.
Russians hold the top three spots in the women’s event with Anna Shcherbakova in first (77.94), Alena Kostornaia in second (76.44) and Kseniia Sinitsyna in third (69.89).
Competition concludes tomorrow with the free skates and free dance. Fans can watch the full competition live and on-demand on Peacock Premium.
