WSOC: No. 10 Hofstra Handles Delaware For Eighth-Straight Win

 


Hempstead, N.Y. – The 10th-ranked Hofstra University women's soccer team dominated from end to end during a 4-0 victory against the University of Delaware on Thursday, October 7 at the Hofstra Soccer Stadium to improve to 3-0 in Colonial Athletic Association play. 
 
The Pride (11-1 overall) scored early and often,

netting three first half goals while outshooting the Blue Hens 20-1 during the opening 45 minutes. Freshman midfielder Georgia Brown tallied her fifth goal of the season during the third minute of action off of a corner kick by senior forward Miri Taylor to give Hofstra the early advantage. Moments later, Taylor scored her team-best 12th goal on helpers from fifth-year midfielder Lucy Porter and fifth-year forward Amanda Ebbesson to double the lead. Junior forward Ellen Halseth capped off the big first half with a goal during the 43rdminute with assists coming from Porter and senior defender Krista Agostinello
 
The Pride extended its halftime lead with a final tally during the 73rd minute as freshman forward Olivia Pearse scored her second goal of the season with Porter adding her third assist of the evening. Delaware tallied six shot attempts during the second half but the Pride back line did not allow a single attempt on frame. 

Hofstra ended the evening with a 31-7 advantage in shot attempts and a 17-1 edge in shots on goal. The Blue and Gold also posted a 12-0 advantage in corner kicks. Junior goalkeeper Skylar Kuzmich needed just one save to earn the win and her seventh shutout of the season and fifth out of her last six outings. 
 
Hofstra returns to the pitch on Sunday, Oct. 10 when the Pride travels to UNCW for a 12 p.m. showdown with the Seahawks. 
 
Notes: 
-Hofstra is now 23-7-1 against Delaware
-Head coach Simon Riddiough will look to capture his 200th career victory against UNCW on Sunday
-Lucy Porter tied a Hofstra single-game assist record with three, joining seven other Pride players
-Miri Taylor tied the Hofstra career assist record with her 27th helper on the opening goal of the evening
-Taylor has now recorded at least one point in 24-consecutive regular season matches
-In addition, Taylor becomes the 13th Hofstra player to record at least 30 points in a single season
-With the win, Hofstra extends its nation-best home winning streak to 15 matches and its overall home unbeaten streak to 24 matches
