Six U.S. Crews In Action on Wednesday at World Rowing Junior Championships

Six U.S. crews will hit the water on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. local time as heats at the 2021 World Rowing Junior Championships get underway in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. In total, the U.S. will have a full squad of 14 boats racing this week at the Plovdiv Canoe and Rowing Centre.
 
Racing in the second of three heats of the

men's pair, Emmett Infante (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Row New Jersey) and Wilson Morton (Summit, N.J./Row New Jersey) will take on crews from Turkey, Spain, Austria, Paraguay and Lithuania. The top two finishers will advance directly to the semifinals, with the remaining boats heading to the repechages.
 
The men's quadruple sculls crew of Owen Rulyak (Seattle, Wash./Pocock Rowing Center), Andrew Manns (Cherry Hill, N.J./South Jersey Rowing Club), Henry Ramstad (Seattle, Wash./Pocock Rowing Center) and Timothy Parsons (Eugene, Ore./South Eugene Rowing Club) will face off against Russia, Poland, France, Hungary and the Netherlands in the second of four heats, with only the heat winner moving onto the semifinals. The remaining boats will race in the repechages.
 
The men's double sculls duo of Clay Rybus (Newport Beach, Calif./Newport Sea Base) and Sean Rybus (Newport Beach, Calif./Newport Sea Base) will take crews from the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Italy, France and the Netherlands in the second of three heats. The top two finishers will head to the semifinals, while the rest of the crews will go to the repechages.
 
In the women's double sculls, Olivia Meskan (Aledo, Ill./Y Quad Cities) and Ella Saunders (North Liberty, Iowa/Y Quad Cities) will race in the third of four heats against crews from Romania, Switzerland, Greece, Ukraine and Ireland. The winner will advance to the semifinals, with the remaining crews going to the repechages. The junior women's double has the most overall entries in Plovdiv with 23.
 
In the men's single sculls, Isaiah Harrison (Coeur d'Alene, Idaho) will race in the first of four heats against scullers from Moldova, Sweden, Russia and Denmark. Harrison is competing at his first junior worlds but is the reigning under 19 champion from the World Rowing Indoor Championships. The top two scullers advance directly to the semifinals, with the remaining moving on to the repechages.
 
In the women's single sculls, Eva Harris (Sarasota, Fla./Sarasota Crew) will take on scullers from Switzerland, Italy, Paraguay and Germany in the third of four heats. Switzerland's Aurelia-Maxima Janzen finished second at the 2021 World Rowing Under 23 Championships last month, while Italy's Giulia Clerici raced at the 2019 World Rowing Junior Championships. The heat winner will advance to the semifinals, with the remaining scullers heading to the repechages.
 
Nearly 600 rowers from 43 nations will be competing in the five-day regatta. Racing will be contested in the men's and women's single sculls, double sculls, quadruple sculls, pair, four, four with coxswain, and eight.
 
Racing continues on Thursday with the remaining heats, as well as repechages from Wednesday's events. Friday's racing features the remaining repechages and the C/D semifinals. Saturday's schedule includes the A/B semifinals, as well as the C and D finals. The A and B finals are scheduled for Sunday.
