Patrons Encouraged to Use Nearby Libraries
Buffalo, New York - Beginning this Wednesday, August 18, 2021, the Crane Branch Library, located at 633 Elmwood Avenue at Highland in Buffalo, will temporarily close due to intensified construction activity. It is expected that the library will reopen in mid-October or sooner depending on construction progress and the weather. The specific reopening date will be posted on the Library System website www.BuffaloLib.org. Library patrons are encouraged to use the Isaías González-Soto Branch at 280 Porter Avenue at Prospect.
The Library is currently undergoing the first
phase of a three-phase major improvement project. Construction activity will be ramping up during this period including applying exterior brickwork and replacing the Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system. The old system was already removed.“For the comfort of patrons and staff, the library has taken a number of steps to allow the branch to operate when feasible during this construction; however at this time we feel it is best to temporarily close for installation of the new HVAC system and exterior brickwork,” said Buffalo & Erie County Public Library Interim Director Jeannine Doyle. “The Library’s drop box will also be closed and additional open hours will be added to the nearby Isaías González-Soto Branch including being open on Tuesdays, beginning August 24. Requested materials can also be picked up at the González-Soto Branch. Plus, the Library on Wheels Bookmobile will be stationed at Bidwell Parkway in the Elmwood Village when possible,” added Ms. Doyle.
The Crane Branch was closed last week due to forecasted high temperatures and humidity.
Phase 1 of this improvement project, managed by the City of Buffalo, in cooperation with the Library, also includes a new elevator to the second floor, ADA compliant restrooms and an improved building entryway.
