OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Keuka College Field Hockey team took an early lead over Oswego State, but the Lakers scored six unanswered goals to defeat the Wolves 6-1 on Wednesday afternoon.
The Wolves (0-5) will return home on Sunday as they host the Pioneers of Utica College at 1pm at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex.
Taylor Lessard netted her first collegiate goal in the first half. Brianna Coia earned the assist on the goal. Freshman Kassidy Valentine made 5 saves in the first half in her first collegiate start in goal. Aphiwe Joyisa recorded 7 saves in the second half in her first collegiate action.
The Wolves came out fast in the first half. They forced an early corner against the Lakers. Although the initial attempt was stopped, Keuka maintained possession in the offensive end. Brianna Coia knocked a loose ball to the left post where it was hit home by Lessard for the 1-0 lead six minutes into the game. Oswego State responded 15 minutes later with a goal to tie the game. They then took the lead as an attempted clear by the Wolves knocked off the referee's foot and right and right to Oswego State for the goal. The Lakers added a third in the half and led 3-1 at the break.
Keuka College started the second half strong against the Lakers. They possessed the ball in the offensive end and force a pair of corners. The Green and Gold found the back of the net but the goal was disallowed. Minutes later, Oswego State added their fourth of the game. The Lakers added two more goals on their way to the 6-1 victory over Keuka College.
