Buffalo State Softball eliminates Plattsburgh, 6-3

CORTLAND, N.Y.— Sixth-seeded Buffalo State answered the call in a second-consecutive elimination game and used a four-run sixth inning to push past No. 2 Plattsburgh, 6-3, in a SUNYAC tournament game that started yesterday, but finished today.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Bengals responded after sleeping on a 1-0 deficit after the game began yesterday, but was delayed until this morning due to rain after the first inning.
  • Lexi Haley (Rochester/Aquinas) tossed her 16th victory of the season, allowing nine hits and two earned runs with five strikeouts.  She was also 1 for 4 with an RBI.
  • Danielle Szymkowiak (Cheektowaga/Cheektowaga) finished 2 for 3 with a home run, and Cassandra O'Hern (Augusta, NJ/High Point) was 2 for 3 with an RBI.
  • Chrissy Rennard (Brockport/Brockport) finished 1 for 1 with an RBI as the Bengals matched Plattsburgh with nine hits.
  • The Bengals evened the score with an RBI single by Haley in the third, and scored four runs on four hits in the sixth to take a lead they would not relinquish. 
  • Plattsburgh added one run in the sixth, but the Bengals answered in the top of the seventh with one more run.
  • The Cardinals loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the seventh, but could only plate a single run.

FOR THE FOES
  • Amanda Tantillo was 3 for 4 for the Cardinals, and Nicole Cast collected a pair of hits.
  • Morgan Anderson took the loss, allowing five hits and three runs in 5 2/3 innings.

UP NEXT
Buffalo State will play the loser of No. 1 Cortland/No. 3 Geneseo later today at approximately 2 p.m.  Plattsburgh is eliminated from the tournament.
