2015-16 WBCA All-Region Honorees
ATLANTA – UAlbany senior forward Shereesha Richards
has been honored on the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA)
All-Region 1 Team and has been nominated for the Coaches’ All-America
Team.
Richards
is the first-ever UAlbany player to be selected as an All-Region
honoree. She is the lone representative from the America East
Conference and one of three players selected from a school that plays in
the state of New York.
Richards
earned her third straight America East Player of the Year honor after
finishing first in the conference in scoring and second in rebounding.
After leading UAlbany to the America East Tournament title and the
program’s first-ever victory in the NCAA Tournament in DI play, the
Naismith Trophy Midseason 30 Team member forward finished shooting 55.8%
with 23.4 points, 8.5 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game.
The
senior forward also earned a place on the America East All-Conference
First Team and was the league’s player of the week five times.
Region
1 is made up of seven conferences that primarily play in the Eastern
U.S. The conferences are the America East, ACC, Atlantic 10, Ivy
League, MAAC, Northeast and Patriot League.
In
all, 52 student-athletes were selected as All-Region players among the
five regions. The 52 are now eligible to be on the 2016 WBCA NCAA
Division I Coaches’ All-America Team, which will be announced on April 2nd during the NCAA Final Four in Indianapolis.
