NFHCA HONORS & AWARDS
ALBANY, N.Y. –
University at Albany field hockey was recognized in the classroom this
week, after The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA)
announced three rounds of academic awards. Phil Sykes landed 12 student-athletes on the National Academic Squad and two to the list of Scholars of Distinction.
The Great Danes were tabbed for the
NFHCA Division I National Academic Team after posting a GPA of 3.43
through the fall semester. To qualify, teams must have at least a 3.0.
This is the third consecutive year Phil Sykes’s team has taken national academic honors, and the highest team GPA in those three seasons.
Division I field hockey players must
accumulate a GPA of 3.30 to be selected as a National Academic Squad
member. To be named a Scholar of Distinction, a student-athlete must
earn a cumulative GPA of 3.90 or higher through the first semester of
the academic year.
The Purple & Gold recorded its
highest number of National Academic Squad members since 2012.
Of the
UAlbany field, eight are repeat selections, including four-year academic
standout Fiori Van Rijswijk. Juniors Paula Heuser, Molly Mariano, Maxi Primus and Taylor Schwoyer sealed the academic trifecta, while Anna Bottino, Kelsey Briddell and Emily White doubled up on NFHCA Academic Squad appearances.
