CLINTON, N.Y. – The Oswego State volleyball team defeated Hamilton
College for the second time this season, sweeping the Continentals 3-0
(27-25, 25-19, 25-17) on the road Tuesday evening in Scott Field House.
Oswego's victory improves its record to 18-7 overall while Hamilton
falls to 3-13.
Defense wreaked havoc on the Continentals as the
Lakers collected 11.5 total team blocks, their third highest total of
the season, behind freshman Alison Sullivan's seven. That amount was one shy of Sullivan's career-high which was set against Scranton in September. Classmate Ariel Murawski did set a new career-mark for blocks with five while senior Megan Russell chipped in four. Fellow senior Kelsey Dillon was fourth Laker to accumulate double-digit blocks on the night, finishing with three on one solo and two assists.
Murawski
and Russell not only led the way on defense, but they combined to pace
Oswego on offense as well. The pair ended with a match-high 10 kills
apiece. Dillon was right on the duo's heels with nine kills of her own.
Junior Lauren Edwards had the pleasure of setting up the hitters, registering a contest-best 19 assists on the night. Classmate Lindsey Champitto added 11 assists of her own in the three-set match.
Edwards and Champitto were two-of-four Lakers to finish with 10 or more digs, collecting 12 and 10 respectively. Seniors Rachael Ruggaber and Kim Cassa were completed that group, tallying 11 digs each.
Oswego
will be back in action this weekend at the Keene State Triangular,
opening at 2 p.m. on Saturday against Western Connecticut State before
taking on the host Owls at 4 p.m.
