SNUG HARBOR JOINS LINCOLN CENTER TO BRING BORO-LINC TO STATEN ISLAND FAMILIES AND CHILDREN

 Features a Variety of Free, Live Performances, Workshops and Exhibits
 
Staten Island, New York - Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden is pleased to announce that it is partnering with Lincoln Center, the world's largest performing arts center, to bring Lincoln Center's Boro-Linc to Staten Island. Boro-Linc is dedicated to making the arts more accessible and increasing arts awareness and engagement for children and their families. The first Boro-Linc program at Snug Harbor is scheduled for Saturday, September 19, 2015, at the Newhouse Center for Contemporary Art and on the outdoor stage across from the NY Chinese Scholar's Garden on the beautiful Snug Harbor campus at 1000 Richmond Terrace. At 1:00 there will be an Arts and Crafts Family Workshop, followed at 2:00 by Rabbit Days and Dumplings, a production from Elena Moon Park and Friends. Elena musically celebrates both sides of her Asian/American heritage by playfully mixing traditional Asian sounds with American folk music. The program will be presented in conjunction with Snug Harbor's Autumn Moon Festival. Admission to the Boro-Linc event is free. Admission to the Autumn Moon Festival, which takes place from 12 noon to 4:00 PM in the Scholar's Garden, is $10 for adults, $8 for students, children and seniors. Other free Lincoln Center's Boro-Linc events for this year at Snug Harbor will include:
Jazz at Lincoln Center: WeBop  ABC's of Jazz (children 8 months to 8 years) Saturday, October, 17, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM.  At 1:00 PM there will be a Creative Play Family Workshop. At 2:00 PM, participants will stomp, strut and swing to the rhythms of jazz as they learn about core concepts, instruments, and great performers of jazz. Children and their families will explore jazz through movement, song, storytelling and play. 
 
Lincoln Center Education: Acopladitos, Saturday, November 21, 2015 from 1:00 to 3:00PM. At 1:00PM there will be a Music & Movement Family Workshop. At 2:00PM a performance by Acopladitos, a Brooklyn-based kindietronic band that blends curious electronic and folk instruments with original songs in Spanish to create an exciting interactive musical experience for the whole family. Recommended for children up to seven years of age.
 
On Saturday, December 12, 2015, Boro-Linc presents a Staten Island Arts Showcase to highlight the incredible artists from the borough with Sundog Theatre from 1:00 to 3:00 PM. Sundog Theatre is a Staten Island-based performing arts organization that engages audiences with contemporary and original theater classes for young people. At 1:00 PM, Broadway star and internationally known mime, Bill Bowers will perform Sundog Theatre Mime Workshop for all ages and families. He will take the audience inside the magical, silent world of mime and teach participants some of his secrets in creating a world without objects. At 2:00 PM, Sundog Theatre will present Holiday Showcase: A Christmas Carol where they share excerpts from a family-friendly musical based on Dicken's famous literary work. A child from the audience will play Tiny Tim while the audience is guided through the story and its history, complete with insights into Charles Dickens himself. Students will also have the opportunity to try on costumes from the show.
 
All Boro-Linc programming, except Elena Moon Park and Friends at the Autumn Moon Festival, will take place in the Newhouse Center for Contemporary Art, Building C, on the Snug Harbor Campus at 1000 Richmond Terrace in Staten Island. Admission is free for all.
