East Village Building Collapse Information

New York City, New York - On the afternoon of Thursday, March 26th, an explosion occurred in the East Village that affected four buildings: 119, 121, 123 and 125 2nd Avenue. The actual explosion occurred in 121. 121 has partially collapsed. 123 has collapsed.

Preliminary evidence suggests a gas-related explosion, and that investigation is ongoing. The initial impact appears to have been caused by plumbing and gas work that was occurring inside 121 2nd Avenue. FDNY, NYPD, OEM, DOB, HPD, and Con Ed have responded.

A reception station and Red Cross site to support residents of the buildings, neighbors, and family members has been set up at PS 63, 121 East Third Street.

As of 5:30 PM on 3/26/15, 12 individuals have been confirmed injured in this incident, three of whom are in critical condition.
