Game 1 – Western Connecticut 1, Vassar 0
The Colonial's pitching duo of Andrew Fogarty and Taylor Donofrio held the Vassar College lineup to just three hits and no runs in picking up the victory in game one. Fogarty went six innings and pitched around six walks, striking out four batters in earning his first win of the season. Donofrio came in and earned his second save of the season, working a three-up, three-down seventh inning.
The contest wasted what was a brilliant performance from junior right-hander, who scattered only
four hits and one run while fanning three. The game's only run came in the top of the second inning, as Nick Delotto worked a lead-off walk to start the rally. After a stolen base by Delotto and a single, Bryan Harper drove in the only run with a ground out to short stop.
Vassar had a chance in the third inning, as Mike Koscielniak and Denis Shanagher each walked to set up first and second with no out. Koscielniak was caught stealing at third for the first out, and after Shanagher stole second base, Vassar was unable to plate the junior after a pair of flyouts.
In the fourth inning, Erick Strickland and Bobby Kinne each singled to put runners at first and second. With two out, Matt Hernandez reached on an error to load the bases, but Fogarty got out of the jam with a strikeout. Nick Johnson doubled with one down in the fifth inning, but was stranded at third base.
Senior Cory Wuenschell walked and stole a base for Vassar, while Hernandez made all six of his plays in the field. Matt Greene was 2-for-2 for the Colonials, while Kyle Maclean added a walk and double for the visitors.
Game 2 – Vassar 17, Western Connecticut 5
The Brewers exploded for a season-high 17 runs and 18 hits in game two of the doubleheader Sunday, led by the four hits and four RBI from Johnson. Six players in all had multi-hit contests for the Brewers, including a three-hit ballgame by Bobby Kinne, who was making his return to the lineup for Vassar Sunday.
WCSU (11-12) got on the board in the top of the first, but Vassar responded with a one score in the bottom half as Johnson doubled in Koscielniak who singled to start the inning. The Colonials added two more runs in the top of the second, but VC scored three times to answer the rally of WCSU, as Hernandez and Johnson each had run-scoring knocks.
After the Colonials once again came back with one run to tie the game at four in the top of the third, Vassar blew the game open with eight runs in the bottom of the third, highlighted by two-run singles by Kinne and Hernandez and a two-RBI double from Wuenschell.
Vassar would take on two more runs in the bottom of the fifth, as Johnson registered another run scoring hit, while Brooks English also plated a run on a fielder's choice. VC finished its scoring in the sixth, posting three more to chalk up the season-best run total.
Koscielniak was 3-for-4 with three runs to improve his average up to .448, and freshman catcher Jake Doyle posted his first collegiate base hits Sunday, going 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. English added two hits, including a triple, and Johnson contributed two of Vassar's five doubles. He now is tied for the all-time doubles record at Vassar, posting his 48th and 49th in game two.
Hernandez was 2-for-4 with three RBI, and Kinne had three hits, two RBI and three runs scored. Trent Berg earned the win, allowing 10 hits and five runs, while Joe Conti and Robert Winkelmann both worked perfect innings of relief, fanning a pair of hitters each.

The Brewers will have six days off before returning to Liberty League action with a crucial four-game set Saturday and Sunday afternoons on Prentiss Field against Rochester Institute of Technology.
