Herons sweep Cortland for second straight win

CORTLAND, N.Y.-The William Smith College tennis team swept Cortland 9-0 in its final non-conference match this afternoon. The win improves the Herons to 9-6 on the season.

William Smith took command early, sweeping doubles. Junior Katarina Kostovic and first-year Alex Greenberg did not drop a game as they won 8-0 at No. 2. In the top spot, junior Hannah More and sophomore Michaelann Denton improved to 15-5 as a duo when they cruised to an 8-2 victory. Sophomore Alex Cattie and first-year Sydney Ferry added a doubles point with an 8-2 win at No. 3.

In singles play, the Herons posted straight set victories in all six matches. Greenberg, Denton, and Ferry won their contests 6-0, 6-0. Greenberg and Denton collected their 13th wins of the season today. At No. 1, More extended her winning streak to nine matches when she knocked off Mia Hayes, 6-1, 6-0.  More is a team-best 16-4 this season.  First-year Connie Froass also posted a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 6, besting Elise Cusimano. Kostovic added a singles point at No. 4, defeating Cati O'Rourke 6-0, 6-2.

William Smith will be back in Liberty League play to close out its season. The Herons Will travel to Vassar next Saturday and then play Rensselaer the next day.
