Cobleskill, N.Y. - The SUNY Cobleskill men's soccer team could not
hold an early two-goal advantage and ended up on the losing end of a
4-2 decision to visiting Green Mountain College in non-league action on
Wednesday afternoon. The loss keeps the Fighting Tigers winless on the
year with a 0-12 overall mark while the Eagles with the victory move to
1-12 overall on the campaign.
Cobleskill got off to a quick start when freshman forward Todd Briggs, Mayfield, N.Y., Mayfield High School, scored a pair of near identical goals in the 4th and 14th minutes of play on assists from freshman midfielder Andrew Potter, Truxton, N.Y., Homer High School, and sophomore midfielder Alex VanFleet, Horseheads, N.Y., Horseheads High School, to make it 2-0 in favor of the Orange & Black.
However
the Eagles then took advantage of several calls to convert on restart
opportunities with sophomore midfielder Nazar Zhukovskyy, Stamford,
Conn., Stamford High School, converting on a penalty kick in the 23rd
minute followed by a goal from junior defender Ryan Crozier, Olmsted
Township, Ohio, Olmsted Falls High School, off a direct kick in the 31st minute.
The Eagles then took the lead for good in the 40th
minute of play when senior midfielder Nate Laymon, Ilion, N.Y., Ilion
High School, blasted home a direct kick to make it 3-2 at the half in
favor of the visitors. Laymon then scored an insurance goal in the
second half at the 66th minute of play to put the game out of reach at 4-2.
Cobleskill will return to action on Saturday October 17th
when they travel to Keuka Park, N.Y. to face the Storm of Keuka College
in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action beginning at 1:00
p.m.
