#2 Orange Rolls Past Monmouth

Fenne scores twice in the win.

The Syracuse defense allowed just one shot and the team scored five times in a convincing 5-0 win over Monmouth on Friday to improve the No. 2 Orange to 10-0 on the year.

Alma Fenne led the way with a pair of goals for 'Cuse as goalkeepers Jess Jecko and Regan Spencer combined to shutout the Hawks (3-8) in the win.

The Orange got one first half goal from Laura Hurff on a deflection of a shot of the stick of teammate Roos Weers with 7:03 to play in the half. It was the only tally of the period, in which Syracuse was dominant with possession and outshot the Hawks 15-0.

Out of the break, Fenne got the second-half scoring started. She jump-started the Orange offense to score four goals in 11 minutes to put the game out of reach. The sequence began with Fenne juked around goalkeeper Christen Piersanti near the endline, taking a sharp-angled shot which found the back of the cage to put 'Cuse up 2-0 with 18 minutes to play in the contest.

Just over a minute later, Liz Sack scored by diving to deflect a long pass from Alyssa Manley to tally the third 'Cuse goal. It's the second goal for Sack in the span of three games after previously having scored just once in her first-36 collegiate contests.

It was Manley again who set up the Orange's fourth goal. She served as the stopper on an insert from Emma Russell on a corner, setting up Lies Lagerweij for the fourth Orange goal with 12 minutes left in the game.

Fenne capped the scoring with 7:16 left, when she spun around a defender into the circle and rifled a low shot past Piersanti for the final tally.

The Orange outshot the Hawks 29-1 total on the afternoon, drawing 12 corners to Monmouth's one and putting 16 of its 29 shots on net.

Next, Syracuse hosts in-state rival Cornell on Sunday at 2 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on Time Warner Cable SportsChannel.
