The derailment was reported around 7:20am this morning. There are 130 firefighters on scene.
Metropolitan Transportation Authority police say the train derailed near the Spuyten Duyvil station.
MTA says four or five cars on the seven-car train derailed about 100 yards north of the station on a curved section of the track. But the MTA added that none of the cars entered the Hudson or Harlem rivers, which are adjacent.
Amtrak Empire Line Service is restored between New York City and Albany.
However, Amtrak said Northeast Corridor service between Boston and Washington is not affected.
