BOSTON — Rescue crews from the Coast Guard Cutter Escanaba, a 270-foot Medium Endurance Cutter homeported in Boston assisted a fishing vessel in distress approximately 72 nautical miles east of Portsmouth, N.H., March 15, 2013.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Northern New England received notification via VHF radio that the 65-foot fishing vessel Titan was having hydraulic problems and could not anchor. The master of the ship expressed concerns of drifting towards Amen Rock.

The sector diverted the Escanaba to assist. At approximately 12:00 p.m. a tow was rigged and transit began back to Portland Harbor in Maine.

At approximately 10:00 a.m. March 16, the vessel was safely transferred to a commercial towing company for further transit to Portland Harbor. A post search and rescue boarding was conducted by a Coast Guard boarding team.

"The fishing vessel was transferred and our boarding team returned safely to the Escanaba," said Kayla M. Fruncillo, a communications watchstander at Sector Northern New England.
