New Rochelle Police Department Holds Annual Memorial and Awards Ceremony

The New Rochelle Police Department held their Memorial & Awards Ceremony on Tuesday, May 17 at the Greentree Country Club. City officials, law enforcement officials, and families gathered to pay tribute to the New Rochelle Police officers who lost their lives in the line of duty, and recognize the accomplishments of department members. 

“This important ceremony is both a solemn remembrance of those officers who gave the ultimate sacrifice, and appreciation of the valuable work done by our department members this past year,” said Commissioner Robert Gazzola. 

Police Officer of the Year went to Police Officer Jon Bulfamante. Community Service Officer Robert Haracz was honored posthumously as Civilian Employee of the Year.

Applications Now Available for Youth Summer Employment Programs

New Rochelle, New York - New Rochelle youth and young adults are encouraged to apply for summer positions through the New Rochelle Youth Bureau’s Summer Employment Programs. Each program operates 20 hours per week for six weeks during July and August and pays $15.00 per hour. The deadline to apply is now May 20.

 

Network Youth Leadership Program

This program provides youth ages 14 -17 with job readiness skills training and actual work experience. Income eligibility is required (a certain amount of program participants is not required to meet any income guidelines). Funded in part by local CDBG program through the Department of Development.

THE COLLEGE OF NEW ROCHELLE ANNOUNCES STUDENT SERVIAM AWARD RECIPIENTS

New Rochelle, New York - During The College of New Rochelle’s (CNR) Founder’s Week Luncheon on January 29, 2013, four CNR students were presented with Serviam Awards for outstanding community service to Iesha Ferguson, Christopher Foye, Alka Kurian, Tazmin Uddin.

Established by the Ursuline Institute and continued by the College, the annual awards honor those students who best embody the Ursuline philosophy of Serviam (I will serve) and support the College’s mission of education for service.

In presenting the awards, Vice President for Mission & Identity Dr. Joan E. Bailey said, “Today’s recipients join previous Serviam Award recipients by exemplifying the Gospel call to help those in need: feeding the hungry, giving drink to the thirsty, sheltering the stranger, clothing the naked, visiting the imprisoned and the sick. It is by service to those in need that humanity will find the road to Peace.”

Graduate School: Iesha Ferguson

Ms. Ferguson volunteers in a case management program, La Puerta (South Bronx), for sheltered women seeking housing. She created and currently facilitates The Empowerment Group for Girls (ages 10-14) at Graham Windham Foster Care Services for Families and Children on 127 St, Harlem.  Ms. Ferguson also serves on the After School Youth and Development Committee at Graham Windham.  As an expression of

THE COLLEGE OF NEW ROCHELLE TO HOLD OPEN HOUSE

New Rochelle, New York - The College of New Rochelle will hold an Open House for prospective students on Sunday, February 10, 2013. The Open House will begin at 11 a.m. with Mass in Holy Family Chapel. Students will also have an opportunity to become informed about admissions and financial aid, hear from current CNR students, watch a basketball game and tour the campus.

THE COLLEGE OF NEW ROCHELLE CASTLE GALLERY PRESENTS TERRA INCOGNITA

New Rochelle, New York - The College of New Rochelle’s (CNR) Castle Gallery will present Terra Incognita, the work of nine artists who are interested in the connection between physical and psychological spaces; many through spacescapes, cityscapes, landscapes, and bodyscapes.

Featured artists:  Will Corwin,Susan D’Amato, Seth Fairweather, Gwen Hardie, Travis Head, Caitlin Masley, Laura Moriarty, Gina Occhiogrosso and Benedict Oddi.

Terra Incognita is organized by Katrina Rhein, Director of Castle Gallery. According to Director Rhein in the exhibit, “Form and scale are cleverly manipulated to suggest connections between macro and micro, the individual and the collective, the specific and the universal. The work encourages us to consider our own limitations as individual and the possibility of transcendence through discovery, contemplation, and interconnection.”

The exhibition is on display from Tuesday, January 29 to Sunday, March 31, 2013. A reception will be held on Sunday, February 3, 2013 from 2 to 4 p.m.
