In The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee
by William Finn and Rachel Sheinkin, six young people learn that winning isn’t everything and that losing doesn’t necessarily make you a loser.  This hilarious tale of overachievers’ angst chronicles the experience of six adolescent outsiders vying for the spelling championship of a lifetime. This is a great show for the whole family, as you laugh along with this quirky yet charming cast of outsiders for whom a spelling bee is the one place where they can stand out and fit in at the same time.

As you learned from the MessageMe alerts this morning, the Harvard University Police Department (HUPD) received an unconfirmed report that explosives may have been placed in four buildings on campus: the Science Center, and Thayer, Sever and Emerson halls. Out of an abundance of caution, the buildings have been evacuated while the report is investigated by the HUPD and the Cambridge Police Department.

Access to Harvard Yard has been restricted to residents of the Yard with Harvard ID. As of the writing of this message the report remains unconfirmed and the HUPD has no reason to believe there is a threat to any other site on campus.

Harvard's focus is on the safety of our students, faculty and staff. We will continue to update the community via MessageME and through messages posted here and on the University's Twitter and Facebook accounts.

Hubbard Hall Opera Theater presents: La Traviata MAX Live!

A Classic Verdi Opera with New Hi-Tech Flavor at Proctors
Cambridge, New York — Hubbard Hall Opera Theater (HHOT) will present Verdi’s most popular, La Traviata, in six performances February 7-17 in the GE Theater at Proctors, Proctors 432 State Street Schenectady, NY.  Performances are fully costumed and staged sung in Italian (with supertitles), featuring a 22 piece orchestra and live singers in front of a fifty foot hi-definition screen with stunning projection design by Caite Hevner.

La Traviata is partially sponsored by the Golub Foundation and will be conducted by Maria Sensi Sellner and directed by Heidi Lauren Duke.  This dream team is responsible for taking HHOT’s 2011 production of Don Pasquale to 2nd place in the American Prize- a national competition for performing arts, http://www.theamericanprize.org/, and is back with us by popular demand.

The GE Theater at Proctors (which allows popcorn and cola to be consumed during the performance as all good movie theaters should, as well as champagne, as only the best do) will open its doors on Thursday, February 7, 8, 14 and 15 at 7:30pm and February 10 and 17 at 2pm.  Tickets are a steal: $40 general admission/$30 HHP members, children and students, and may be obtained online at http://www.proctors.org
