Three US Ladies Land In Top Ten After ISU World Championships 2016 Short Program
Boston, Maine - Three US figure skating ladies Ashley Wagner, Gracie Gold and Mirai Nagasu landed in the top ten during the ISU World Championships short program on March 31st, 2016 in Boston, Massachusetts.
Mirai Nagasu finished her short program with a score of 65.74 points, 10th place currently.
Ashley Wagner finished her short program with a personal best by scoring 73.16, sitting currently in 4th place.
Gracie Gold finished her short program in 1st place with a score of 76.43 place.
These three ladies from the United States will take part in their free program on Saturday, April 2nd, 2016 in Boston, Massachusetts.

Statement of Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh Regarding 9-Alarm Back Bay Fire
Tonight the City of Boston mourns the loss of two of our own. Lt. Ed Walsh and Firefighter Michael Kennedy lost their lives battling the nine-alarm fire on Beacon Street today.
Words cannot do justice to the grief that we feel tonight. Our hearts are heavy with the knowledge that these brave men gave their lives to protect the safety of our city and its people.
The men and women of the Boston Fire Department are the brave heroes who run towards the danger when others run away. A day like today makes us all too aware of what they are risking in the course of doing their jobs. They are heroes simply by virtue of accepting this duty. They put themselves in harm’s way so that others might be safe.
Thank you to the Boston Fire Department, Boston Police Department (Official), Boston EMS (Emergency Medical Services) and all other first responders and volunteers for your heroic work today.
Our thoughts and prayers are with their families tonight as they face this terrible loss. We also hold close their fellow firefighters, who have lost friends as dear as brothers.

Update on Beacon St. 8: The Boston Fire Commissioner regrets to announce the Line of Duty deaths of two Boston firefighters killed today. Killed was Lt. Edward J. Walsh,Jr. assigned to Engine Company 33 on Boylston Street. 43 yo, a 9 1/2 year veteran. Second killed was Firefighter Michael R. Kennedy of Ladder Company 15 on Boylston St. 33yo, a 6 1/2 yr veteran. Also Veteran USMC. Lt. Walsh was the son of a Watertown firefighter. Married with 2 boys, 1 girl- all under age 10. He lived in West Roxbury.
Lt. Walsh's late father was a Lieutenant as was his late Uncle Bill. His cousin Tom is currently a Captain, all on Watertown Fire
Firefighter Kennedy was single and lived in Hyde Park. He was a veteran of the Marine Corps.

Gracie Gold US National Figure Skating Champion, Winter Olympics Contender
Boston, Massachusetts - Beautiful eighteen year old US Figure Skater Gracie Gold was having the time of her life as she won the U.S Nationals and will be making the long trip to Sochi, Russia for the 2014 Winter Olympics.Gold was blistering hot on an unseasonably warm, humid night in Boston, scorching the former U.S. record by 10 points for a total score of 211.69. With a packed TD Garden and nerves running high, each competitor knew what was at stake. Gold credited her new coach, Frank Carroll, with helping her stay focused.
"The nerves are something I've battled with and [have] let them get into my head," Gold said. "But tonight I felt strangely calm. And Frank's got an eye. We just found a quiet corner [and] waited for the six skaters."
We can't wait to see how this beautiful young lady does in Sochi, Russia for the 2014 Winter Olympics next month.
Gracie Gold born August 17, 1995 is an American figure skater. She is the 2012 World Junior silver medalist, the 2014 U.S. national champion, and has been named to the U.S. team for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.

GOLD, CASTELLI AND SHNAPIR LEAD AT THE 2014 PRUDENTIAL U.S. FIGURE SKATING CHAMPIONSHIPS

Skating in front of their hometown crowd, Castelli and Shnapir took the ice last and delivered their best short program performance of the season. The reigning champs earned 73.13 points and lead last year's bronze medalists Felicia Zhang and Nathan Bartholomay, who earned 66.50 points. In third after their skate on Thursday are DeeDee Leng and Timothy LeDuc with 66.40 points. Champions in 2012, Caydee Denney and John Coughlin are in fourth with 65.40 points.
After mistakes in her short program last year, Gold made no mistake grabbing the lead after the short program. Her huge opening triple Lutz-triple toe led the way to a program that earned 72.12 points. In her senior debut, Polina Edmunds brought the fans to their feet with a performance that earned 66.75 points while 2010 Olympian Mirai Nagasu is in podium position with 65.44 points. Two-time reigning champion Ashley Wagner sits in fourth place with 64.71 points.

The pairs and ladies will conclude their events live on NBC on Saturday. The final two groups of pairs will begin at 2:45 p.m. ET while the ladies free skate will begin at 6:45 p.m. ET.
Earlier in the day at TD Garden, Nathan Chen skated to an event record 223.93 points in the junior men's event and reclaimed the title he couldn't defend last year. Jordan Moeller, sixth after the short program, earned 134.25 points on Thursday and jumped to second, while Jimmy Ma earned the bronze.
In the junior ice dance event, second in 2013, Kaitlin Hawayek and Jean-Luc Baker climbed to the top of the podium this year with a total of 152.26 points. Lorraine McNamara and Quinn Carpenter, bronze medalists at the junior level last year, earned the silver while Rachel Parsons and Michael Parsons, who missed last year's event due to injury, earned the bronze.
At the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center, Caroline Green and Gordon Green claimed the lone title of the day as they earned 105.76 points in intermediate ice dance.

BREAKING NEWS: Boston, Massachusetts - The Boston marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev is in CUSTODY. He is injured, in custody by Police.
Red Cross Response Efforts Continue in Texas and Boston
“Our hearts go out to everyone affected by this week’s tragic events in Texas and Boston,” said Trevor Riggen, vice president of Disaster Operations for the Red Cross. “Our teams are on the ground now helping those in need and we will continue to work in close coordination with officials in Texas and Boston to determine how we can best support these communities as they recover.”
WEST, TEXAS EXPLOSION Within hours of the plant explosion in Texas, the Red Cross opened a shelter and began supporting a community response center. Red Cross disaster workers have been deployed from all over the state and are providing emotional support and health services with relief items such as comfort kits and water enroute to the region. Red Cross Blood Services is providing blood products to help those injured in the explosion.
MARATHON BOMBINGS In Boston, the Red Cross is providing emotional support and health and spiritual care services at the various community vigils and supporting a family assistance center. Red Cross Blood Services has provided about 500 blood products to several hospitals in the Boston area. Nearly 150 disaster workers have deployed to provide support and comfort. Since Monday, the Red Cross has served about 7,000 meals and snacks, distributed relief items like blankets and comfort kits and provided hundreds of mental health and health services to those affected.
SEVERE WEATHER Red Cross chapters throughout the Midwest are also preparing for severe weather and flooding as rain and winds continue to move through that part of the country. Volunteers and shelters are ready in several states if needed.
HOW TO HELP This week’s tragedies prove that an emergency can happen anywhere, at anytime. While the Red Cross helps in Texas and Boston, it is preparing to respond to severe weather and flooding in other areas of the country. To support Red Cross disaster response, people can donate to Red Cross Disaster Relief at www.redcross.org or by texting REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation. People who want to make a donation to directly support victims of the Boston Marathon bombings can visit www.theonefundboston.org.
The Red Cross has enough blood in its inventory now to support both the situation in Texas as well as Boston but reminds everyone that the need for blood is constant. Those who are eligible to give blood are strongly encouraged to schedule an appointment to give in the days and weeks ahead by calling 1-800-RED CROSS or visiting www.redcrossblood.org.
Many rushed in to provide immediate help for victims of the explosions in Texas and Boston. People can register for a Red Cross First Aid/CPR class at www.redcross.org or take the Family First Aid and CPR class online by visiting www.redcross.org/takeaclass. They can also download the free Red Cross First Aid App which puts simple lifesaving information for first aid emergencies in the hands of smart phone and tablet users. The app is available in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
STEPS TO HELP COPE It has been a difficult week for people across the country. In times like these, it is important for people to connect with and support each other. The Red Cross has information people can use to cope in the aftermath of these tragedies. Investigation Update: Boston Marathon Bombings

Let me recap our efforts in this investigation.
Yesterday at this time, our collaborative efforts were focused on saving lives and treating the injured. At the same time, resources were directed to ensure the safety of our community.
As soon as those important tasks were completed, first responders focused on establishing a criminal investigation. The FBI Boston’s Joint Terrorism Task Force, composed of more than 30 federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies, including Boston Police, Massachusetts State Police, and ATF, HSI, United States Secret Service, and others responded to the scene. Many of them were already there as part of the general security for the marathon already in place.
The first step law enforcement took was to secure the physical area around the blast for the purpose of preserving evidence in the area related to the devices itself. This morning the FBI, along with Boston PD, Massachusetts State Police, and ATF officially began its forensic evidence recovery effort at the site. Their goal was to recover physical items related to the blast. Those items have been recovered and sent to the FBI’s Laboratory in Quantico, Virginia. There, specialized examiners will reconstruct the device and determine its makeup and components. Among items partially recovered are pieces of black nylon—which could be from a backpack—and what appear to be fragments of BBs and nails possibly contained in a pressure cooker device. We are expediting this blast evidence to our Laboratory in Quantico, Virginia for a complete and thorough analysis.
In addition, this morning, it was determined that both of the explosives were placed in a dark-colored nylon bag or backpack. The bag would have been heavy because of the components believed to be in it. At this point, it is difficult to determine specific components used until we can eliminate other factors which may have been already present in the environment. In fact, that won’t be known with some certainty until the Laboratory completes its final review.
Away from the scene, yesterday afternoon, the JTTF began its investigation. Immediately after the bombing, the FBI initiated a command post. Those assigned to the JTTF, intelligence analysts, and other personnel from every state, local, and federal government agency associated with the JTTF—and many others on their own, including Boston PD and Mass State Police—more than 1,000 law enforcement officers across many agencies—have been assigned to this investigation via the command post. They began canvassing sources, reviewing government and public source databases, and conducting interviews with eyewitnesses and others to determine who is responsible for this crime. We are doing this methodically, carefully, yet with a sense of urgency.
All across the nation, and around the world, the force of the United States is working hard to locate those responsible.
Already, the FBI has received more than 2,000 tips as of noon today, many of which have already been reviewed, analyzed, and vetted.
We will continue to work around the clock, tirelessly, side by side with our partners to continue to investigate and act on these leads.
Regarding who might be suspected of this event, the investigation is in its infancy. As law enforcement, it’s our responsibility to thoroughly review each and every piece of evidence. Some of our activity you may see, some of it you won’t—but rest assured, we are working hard to get the answers.
At this time, there are no claims of responsibility. The range of suspects and motives remains wide-open.
Importantly, the person who did this is someone’s friend, neighbor, coworker, or relative. We are asking anyone who may have heard someone speak about the marathon or the date of April 15 in any way that indicated he or she may target the event to call us. Someone knows who did this.
Cooperation from the community will play a crucial role is this investigation. We ask that businesses review and preserve surveillance video and other business records in their original form. And we are asking the public remain alert and to alert us to the following activity:
- An individual who expressed a desire to target the marathon;
- Suspicious interest in researching how to create explosive device;
- The noise of explosions in remote areas prior to yesterday which may have been used as tests by those responsible;
- Someone who appeared to be carrying an unusually heavy, dark-colored bag yesterday around the time of the blasts and in the vicinity of the blasts.
As further substantive details become available that are appropriate for release, then together we will either issue a release or hold a press conference.
Tomorrow, we plan to hold another press conference in the early afternoon.
