New York City Metro Area Under Winter Storm Warning For Thursday

New York City, New York - The New York City metro area is under a winter storm warning for a Nor' Easter that is expected to hit the area during the day on Thursday, February 9th, 2017.

Before careful if you're out for New York Fashion Week or have to get to work, etc.

Here is Tonight, Thursday's forecast from the National Weather Service:

Tonight
A chance of rain before 1am, then rain and snow between 1am and 3am, then snow after 3am. Low around 33. Wind chill values between 20 and 25. North wind 8 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible.

Thursday
Snow, mainly before 2pm. The snow could be heavy at times. High near 33. Wind chill values between 15 and 20. Breezy, with a north wind 18 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 3 to 7 inches possible.

TO 6 PM EST THURSDAY...

* Accumulations...6 to 10 inches of snow...locally higher.

* Locations...New York City, Long Island, Southern Connecticut, the Lower Hudson Valley and Northeastern New Jersey.

* Hazard type...Heavy snow.

* Timing...Late tonight through Thursday.

* Impacts...Hazardous/dangerous travel due to snow covered roads and poor visibilities. Blowing and drifting snow is likely. Local power outages with downed trees and powerlines possible.

* Winds...North 10 to 20 mph with gusts 35 to 40 mph.

* Visibilities...one quarter mile or less at times.

* Temperatures...falling into the 20s over most of this area.

A Winter Storm Warning for Heavy Snow means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous. Only travel in an
emergency. If you must travel...keep an extra flashlight...food... and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
