During an Olympic year, the World Rowing Championships is a combined regatta, featuring junior, U23, and senior team competition. Glaude will represent the United States in the U23 double scull, while Tavares is a part of the Canadian U23 coxed four crew. Kerpestein is a member of the Dutch junior coxed eight boat.
In his second year at Syracuse in 2016, Glaude held a spot in the Orange third varsity eight boat. The Oxford, Pa. native helped the crew to a 15th-place showing at the 2016 Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) Championship Regatta. Glaude will hit the water at the World Rowing Championships on Sunday morning at 4:50 a.m. EST.
As a freshman at Syracuse this past year, Tavares sat in the Orange's top boat, the first varsity eight. Tavares helped the crew to a 15th-place showing at the 2016 IRA Championship Regatta, the team's best finish since 2012. Heats for the U23 coxed four competition begin at 10 a.m. EST in Rotterdam, Netherlands.
Kerpestein has been a part of the Netherlands' top junior boat throughout 2016. Earlier this year, he helped the Dutch coxed eight crew to a second-place showing at the 2016 European Rowing Junior Championships in Trakai, Lithuania. Kerpestein will start racing on Wednesday morning at the World Rowing Championships.
