Weir’s game-winner sends @OW_Panthers Women’s Lacrosse past Mount Saint Mary

OLD WESTBURY, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com)  SUNY Old Westbury women's lacrosse (4-8) closed out Wednesday's 9-8 Skyline Conference home win over the Mount Saint Mary Knights (4-7, 0-3 Skyline) with a 6-1 run to improve to 2-1 in the league standings.

Down 5-0, Natasha Treuman broke the scoring ice for Old Westbury with 7:42 left in the opening half to tie Sara Bey's freshman record set in 2014 with her 37th goal of the season.  Treuman then found Halle Johnson at 4:55 followed by a goal by Taylor Guarneri 1:13 later to make it a 5-3 game.  Shannon McGuiness' score with 2:38 remaining doubled the Knights' advantage to head into the half with a 6-3 lead.

Jen Gries opened the second-half scoring 5:14 in for Mount Saint Mary's 7-3 lead.  Danielle Weir slotted a pass to Johnson at 22:43 to ignite a 3-0 spurt as Weir and Guarneri contributed goals to the run.  Catherine Ferris scored with 14:56 showing on the clock to give Mount Saint Mary an 8-6 lead.  Old Westbury closed out the final 10:24 with a 3-0 run to claim the come-from-behind win.  Courtney Gallagher assisted on Weir's goal at 10:24, and Weir then fed Gabriella DiPierno with 7:25 left to tie the game.  With 2:55 remaining, Weir settled the scoring with her fourth-career game-winning goal.  

Weir finished with her third-straight hat trick (fifth of the season) to go with two assists and four draw controls to lead Old Westbury.  Johnson and Guarneri both followed with two goals.  Guarneri tied a career-high with six ground balls while Treuman added five.  The trio of Guarneri, Treuman and Christine Fernandez registered three caused turnovers each.

Ashley Gugliuzzo (4-8) made six saves to go with three ground balls and one caused turnovers for Old Westbury.

Amanda Picillo (4-7) stopped 12 shots in defeat for Mount Saint Mary. 

PURCHASE PANTHERS UP NEXT FOR OLD WESTBURY: Old Westbury returns to action next Wednesday (Apr. 20) for a Skyline Conference road battle with the Purchase Panthers at 7 p.m. in Purchase, New York.
