Thoroughbreds finish Capital Region weekend with split after Saturday loss to Union

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's basketball team dropped a 74-57 decision on the road at Union College on Saturday afternoon.

  • The Thoroughbreds fall to 5-7 overall and 3-2 in the Liberty League.
  • The Garnet Chargers earned the weekend sweep after defeating Ithaca on Friday. Union is 8-5 overall and 4-1 in the conference.
  • Union led by 11, 42-31, at halftime, behind two 50+ percent shooting quarters, including a 63.2 percent mark in the second period in which is connected from 12-of-16 from inside the 3-point line.
  • Skidmore, despite slowing Union down in the second half, was not able to catch up. The Garnet Chargers led by as many as 22 late in the fourth quarter.
  • Sarah Chambers led Skidmore with 13 points and 10 rebounds for her second double-double of the year. She also had two assists, two steals and Skidmore's only recorded block.
  • Madison Meyer dropped 10 points with a pair of steals.
  • Claudia Schneider also registered two steals and finished with eight points.
  • Union had three players in double figures, led by Jelena Perovic, who had 16 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double.
  • Grace Ceseretti finished one rebound shy of a double-double. She scored 15.
  • Jenna Forman scored 14 for the Garnet Chargers.
  • Union dominated the defensive glass, finishing with a 40-20 edge in defensive rebounds and a 54-30 edge overall.
  • The Garnet Chargers doubled up the Thoroughbreds, 34-17, in bench points, and finished with a 48-18 edge in points in the paint.
  • Skidmore led 11-6 in points off turnovers with just six turnovers committed all afternoon.
