PLATTSBURGH, N.Y.
– The Plattsburgh State women's ice hockey team fell to No. 6 Oswego State in ranked State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) matchup 2-0 on Saturday afternoon in the Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena.

The Plattsburgh State Cardinals are ranked at No. 7 in the latest USCHO.com Division Top-15 Poll, while Oswego State is No. 6.

Chloe Lewis (Monson, Mass./Northwood School) made 20 saves in goal for the

Cardinals, taking her third loss of the season between the pipes. The Plattsburgh offensive attack was led by senior defender Mattie Norton (Glen Carbon, Ill. / St. Louis Lady Blues) and sophomore defender Adriana Urban (Monroe, N.J. / Hoosac School) as both put up five shots on goal to lead the team.

The Cardinals won the shot battle 32-22 while going 0-4 on the power play. The Lakers went scoreless on the advantage as well, going scoreless in three chances.

Plattsburgh State falls to 9-3-1 (5-2-1 SUNYAC) and next travels to Morrisville for a weekend set of games, beginning on Friday, Jan. 17 at 7 p.m. Oswego State moves to 9-1-1 (6-1-1 SUNYAC) and travels to Potsdam next weekend beginning on Friday, Jan. 17 at 7 p.m.

The Cardinals came out strong offensively in the first period, putting up several shots early as they ended up outshooting the Lakers 15-6 in the first 20 minutes of action. A late power play for Plattsburgh with over two minutes remaining in the period provided a great chance for the Cardinals to strike first. However, Oswego Lexi Levy netminder stood tall, saving all five Plattsburgh chances.

In the second period, the Cardinals once again held the shot advantage, 9-7 with play even between the teams throughout. Plattsburgh went on the powerplay just over six minutes into the period, but Oswego killed the penalty yet again. After killing the penalty, the Lakers got on the board first with a goal from Simone Bednarik at the 9:36 mark.

Both teams had opportunities on the advantage in the ensuing part of the period, as Plattsburgh looked to tie the score. The Cardinals killed Oswego's lone powerplay of the period and the Lakers killed their second penalty of the period holding onto their 1-0 lead after two periods of play.

Plattsburgh's offense came out hot to start the third and final period pouring in four shots in the first two minutes of play. However, Oswego limited the Cardinals' attack to only eight shots in the entirety of the period, while the Lakers put up their most shots of any stanza in the third with nine.

Heading into the final minutes, the Cardinals pulled their goalie looking to find the equalizer late, but the Lakers' defense stood tall as Mack Hull sealed the game on an empty netter with less than 10 seconds remaining to lift the Lakers to a 2-0 win.

Levy made 32 saves in the net for the Lakers, earning the shutout win in goal. Hull and Katie Demers each had assists for the Lakers.
