ANGOLA, Ind. – The St. John Fisher men's volleyball team swept Lancaster Bible and Mount St. Joseph on Saturday to complete a 3-0 season-opening weekend at the Trine University Quad Match.
The Cardinals, ranked No. 11 in the AVCA Coaches Poll to start the season, swept all three of their opponents in the two-day event.
Match 1: St. John Fisher 3, Lancaster Bible 0
The Cardinals won the first set 25-23, the second 25-16 and the third 25-22.
The Cardinals rallied back from a 16-11 deficit in the third set. They scored
five straight points to tie the game and took the lead for good moments later.Fisher had 42 kills and hit .275, while Lancaster Bible had 30 kills and hit .172.
Middle blocker Griffin Stella led the Cardinals with 10 kills. Outside hitters Jake Baker and Casey Jackson had nine and seven, respectively. Middle blocker Ian Rauh also had seven kills.
Rauh led the Cardinals with a .600 hitting percentage; Stella hit .444.
Stella and middle blocker Guillermo Perez recorded a team-high two blocks.
Setter Gavin Newman amassed a match-best 24 assists.
Match 2: St. John Fisher 3, Mount St. Joseph 0
The Cardinals won the first set 25-19, the second 25-18 and the third 25-20.
Fisher hit a weekend-high .392 and recorded 41 kills in the match.
Sophomore outside hitters Connor Holmes and Sonepith Keoviengsamay paced the Cardinals with eight kills apiece. Perez had six, and freshman Colten Welter had five.
Perez hit .600, while Holmes hit .462 and Welter .400. Keoviengsamay logged a .375 hitting percentage.
Keoviengsamay, who accounted for a team-high 10.5 points, had two of Fisher's five service aces.
Evan Ingerick tallied a team-high 16 assists.

The Cardinals face Buffalo State and Wittenberg at 3 and 7 p.m. next Friday, Jan. 17, at Manning and Napier Varsity Gym.
