TEAM USA COLLECTS TWO MEDALS AT FRENCH CUP

The United States collected two medals at 2022 French Cup, the final event of the International Skating Union (ISU) Challenger Series Synchronized Skating. Teams Elit claimed gold in the junior competition, while the Skyliner earned silver in the senior event in Rouen, France.

Teams Elit dominated the junior competition, winning both the short program and free skate to tally 197.26 points and clear the field by over 20 points. In their Ouiji-themed short program, the Illinois-based team earned Level 4 marks for their twizzle element and no-hold element, as well as all positive grades of execution to notch 71.15 points. Their free skate set to music by Missy Elliot included Level 4 synchronized spins and Level 4 moves in the field to earn 126.11 points. This is Teams Elites third consecutive Challenger Series medal; the team also earned bronze at Hevelius Cup in January and second at 2020 Spring Cup.

In their first international competition since 2020, the Skyliner placed second in the short program and free skate to secure the silver medal in the senior competition with 203.62 total points. The Skating Club of New York squad earned 75.62 for their short program set to "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" by Cinematic Pop. Their performance included a Level 4 pivoting block and traveling circle. In their stalker-themed free skate, the Skyliner earned 128.00 points and Level 4 marks for their pairs, move, twizzle and no-hold elements.

Skyliners junior withdrew from the event prior to the start of competition.

The international synchronized skating season continues next week with 2022 Neuchatel Trophy, Feb. 11-12, in Neuchatel, Switzerland.
