Morrisville State falters in road trip to Penn College

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Morrisville State softball hit the road for a double-header against North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) North Division opponent Penn College, and struggled as they dropped both contests Friday afternoon in Williamsport.

With the losses, the Mustangs fall to 5-11 overall, 1-5 in conference play. Morrisville State will look to rebound as they take the field tomorrow in a Route 20 match up with rival Cazenovia on the Mustangs home field at 1 p.m.

In the first of the day's action, Amanda Labe (Friedensburg, Pa.) recorded the lone Mustang hit, a
single in the top of the third inning. Labe also registered the only run for the visitors, scoring in the first inning for the 1-0 lead.

Allison McGuire (Gilboa, N.Y.) logged the loss, throwing the first 1.1 innings and allowing four earned runs on seven hits. Brittany Keator (Roxbury, N.Y.) completed the game on the mound for the final 2.2 innings, allowing four earned runs on four hits.

Morrisville State took the 1-0 lead on Labe's run in the top of the first inning before the Wildcats placed their leadoff batter on first with a walk and followed with five straight hits to claim the 5-1 lead after the opening inning.

Penn College added two more runs in the second before capping off the contest with a five run fourth inning to seal the 12-1 conference victory.

Labe finished 1-for-2 from the plate for the Mustangs.

In the nightcap, Morrisville State and Penn College battled to a 2-0 game in favor of the hosts through five innings before the Wildcats put together a six run inning in the bottom of the sixth to claim the 8-0 conference win.

Erika Kenney (Duanesburg, N.Y.) posted the loss, throwing 5.2 innings and allowing two earned runs on eight hits, while collecting a strikeout. Keator finished the contest, facing two batters and allowing one hit and a run.

Bailey Dillabough (Massena, N.Y.) and Beth Marr (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) each went 1-for-2 from the plate to lead the Mustang offensive efforts, both recording singles late in the contest.
