Mayor Brown and Buffalo State College President Announce Designated Developer of Dart St Impound

Buffalo, NY – Mayor Byron W. Brown today joined with Buffalo State College President Dr. Katherine Conway-Turner to officially announce the college has been picked as designated developer of the City of Buffalo’s Auto Impound site, located at 166-170 Dart St.

“For some time my Administration has been planning to relocate the City’s Auto Impound facility, and the site’s location, adjacent to Buffalo State College, feels like a perfect fit for the educational facility   that needs more space to fulfill its long-term mission,” Mayor Brown said. “I have no doubt Dr. Conway- Turner, and the SUNY Buffalo State board and staff, will come up with a creative and fitting use for this highly-visible site.”

City sets public meeting regarding former YMCA site

Poughkeepsie, NY – After taking ownership of the property earlier this year, the City of
Poughkeepsie has set a public meeting regarding possible uses for the former Dutchess YMCA
site. The meeting will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday May 13 at the Family Partnership
Center, 29 North Hamilton St., Poughkeepsie.

Mayor Rob Rolison will make introductory remarks. John Penney, community engagement
director for the City of Poughkeespie, will then moderate a discussion with Paul Calogerakis,
economic development director for the city, and Paul Hesse, community development
coordinator for the city. This conversation will be followed by questions from the public.

The City of Poughkeepsie is seeking development proposals for the more than 3-acre site
located at 35 Montgomery Street. The building has been vacant since the YMCA closed its doors
in 2009.

City officials are evaluating the condition of the property -- and to establish whether the building
is salvageable or must be torn down.

The city has released a Request for Expressions of Interest (RFEI) for the property. The RFEI is
intended to solicit ideas that will yield significant community benefit, such as economic
development, social and neighborhood cohesion and/or the creation of facilities serving youth
and young adults. The RFEI may lead to a Request for Proposals (RFP) process that may result
in an award of a preferred developer to move the project forward and to fruition.

Public-private partnerships, including with the City of Poughkeepsie, are possible.

“We look forward to hearing more from the community about their thoughts for this site,” said
City of Poughkeepsie Mayor Rob Rolison.

Questions from potential developers must be submitted in writing via mail, e-mail or fax by 4
p.m. Monday May 20. Proposals are due in to the City of Poughkeepsie Planning and
Development Department by 3 p.m. on Monday June 3.

Patchogue Theatre Announces TWO NEW BOARD MEMBERS

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. (LONG ISLAND) - Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts (PTPA) recently announced that Michael Rubenstein and Roger Smith have joined the volunteer board of directors for the not-for-profit, 1100 seat venue that in December celebrated 20 years since the 95-year-old venue was saved from the demolition by the Incorporated Village of Patchogue.   Michael Rubenstein has a 20+ year career in business and finance with firms such as Ernst and Young. Ten years ago, his interest in arts and entertainment saw him supporting and representing a dozen live theatrical productions as a producer, director and investor. Michael is a TONY-Award winning producer for Pippin - Best Revival of a Musical. He’s shared business insights and financial expertise with Broadway and Off-Broadway productions, arts and entertainment venues, and not-for-profit organizations. Michael also serves as a Board Member and Treasurer for AMAS Theater Workshop, a Non-Profit Diversity Workshop Theatre Organization. He lived on Long Island for many years and currently resides in Forest Hills.   Roger Smith is an accomplished professional and academic figure whose award-winning career has spanned over 40 years in architecture and facility planning, most notably as the owner of BBS architects, a major Long Island design firm based in Patchogue. His extensive work as a volunteer has included professional organizations such as the US Green Building Council (USGBC) and American Institute of Architects (AIA) who presented him with a lifetime achievement award in 2010 and community work such as serving on of the Board of Advisors of St John the Baptist High School since 2006. He is a long time Bayport resident.   “I could not be more excited to welcome Michael and Roger as part of the expansion of our board of directors. As a growing regional performing arts center that’s also a not for profit organization, we have a lot of work to do to secure funding for our programs and infrastructure,” says Christopher Capobianco, Chairman of the PTPA Board of Directors. “Our organization will benefit tremendously from Michael and Roger’s diverse experience in not for profit work and their relationships throughout the New York area as we expand our reach to new audiences and donors.”   In 2017, Gary Hygom was hired as Executive Director and Christopher Capobianco became Chairperson of the Board after 11 years as a board member. Since then, PTPA has taken a new direction by quadrupling the number of shows they present, expanding the variety of shows by adding a Broadway, jazz, and classical series, a new educational initiative, and booking more high-profile touring acts to the schedule.

Removal of abandoned medical facility part of Madden administration’s commitment to revitalize Troy neighborhoods 

Abatement of asbestos from structure will occur prior to demolition of building

TROY, NY – Mayor Patrick Madden today announced the City of Troy is moving forward with the demolition of the former Leonard Hospital building in north Troy. The city is seeking qualified contractors to remove the abandoned medical facility – located at 74 New Turnpike Road in the Collar City’s historic Lansingburgh neighborhood – by October 1, 2019.

Mayor Madden said, “The Leonard Hospital building has been a blight on the Lansingburgh neighborhood, negatively impacting nearby homes and properties and harming the quality of life of local families and businesses for over two decades. Removing this long-vacant structure is part of my administration’s commitment to revitalize Troy’s neighborhoods and positively shape the future of our community. We are eager to move forward with this important project in a safe, responsible manner to encourage new investment and growth in our city.”

Originally constructed in the 1960s, Leonard Hospital closed its doors over twenty years ago. The approximately 6.4 acre site is targeted for redevelopment as a shovel-ready project following the completion of demolition later this year.

The demolition bid for Leonard Hospital includes an alternate addition for asbestos abatement for contractors capable of completing both tasks. The abatement of asbestos will be completed prior to the start of demolition at the site.

Copies of the Leonard Hospital demolition and asbestos abatement services bids can be obtained from the City of Troy’s Purchasing Department, 433 River Street, Troy, NY 12180. Interested vendors can request electronic documents from Claudia Mahoney at Claudia.mahoney@troyny.gov. Responses are due by May 15, 2019, at 11:00 am.

All Abilities Kids & Teens Music & Movement

Designed for the needs of young people who have intellectual and/or cognitive disabilities, we stretch, sing, dance, and play percussion instruments. Maggie Rothwell plays acoustic guitar and leads us in a range of musical styles and themes. Call Amy at the library with any questions. We make hypotheses and test them with hands-on experiments at every session of All Abilities Kids Science.
