CORTLAND, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo junior midfielder Cassidy Sturdevant provided the Knights' only offense as the squad fell, 5-1, to 20th-ranked Cortland on Saturday afternoon.


HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Geneseo outshot the Red Dragons, 7-0, in the first quarter but were unable to find the net in the opening frame. 
  • Cortland reversed the trend in the second quarter, outshooting the Knights, 10-0. The Red Dragons capitalized on the advantage, taking a 2-0 lead with a pair of second-quarter goals.
  • The Red Dragons added to their lead just two minutes into the third quarter, but Geneseo responded just over five minutes later. Off of a penalty corner, sophomore defender Emma Paris laid off a pass to Sturdevant who fired a shot from just inside the circle to make it 3-1. 
  • Cortland added a pair of goals over the final 20 minutes to defeat the Knights, 5-1. 

QUICK FACTS 

  • Sturdevant tallied her second goal of the season while Paris earned her first assist of the year. 
  • Junior goalkeeper Sarah Quinlan made five saves and allowed three goals in 34 minutes in net while senior goalkeeper Natalie Chojnacki made four saves and allowed two goals in 26 minutes of action. 
  • The five goals conceded by the Knights is the most allowed in a single game since Sept. 24, 2016.
