Purchase, NY (Mar. 3, 2019) – Junior goalie Matt Sayegh (Hopewell Juntion, NY) recorded a career-best 23 saves and sophomore midfielder Ben Erkan (Bellport, NY) put up his third-career hat trick in the 2019 Purchase College men's lacrosse season opener at Manhattanville College on Sunday.

Despite the notable Panther performances, the host Valiants went on to win the non-conference matchup, 17-4, at GoValiants.com Field.

Manhattanville (2-0) jumped ahead early, firing in six unanswered goals in the first quarter and another two to open the second.

Trailing 8-0, Erkan scored back-to-back unassisted goals in the second quarter to get things started for the Panthers.

The Valiants led by eight points at the half and added another four unanswered goals after the break to extend their lead to 14-2 in the third period.  Purchase scored two more in the game's final three minutes, thanks to Erkan and freshman Christian Ishoo (Tarrytown, NY), but the Valiants came away with the 17-4 win.
