Fourth walk-off winner for Devils

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- A two-run single by Quinn Danahy (Buffalo, N.Y./Bishop TImon) in the last of the ninth completed Fredonia's 7-6 comeback win over Medaille in college baseball Wednesday at Ludwig Field.

Down 6-1 before rallying, Danahy's hit -- his second of the day and his second and third RBI -- gave the Blue Devils (15-15) their fourth walk-off win of the season.

Sophomore right-hander Steve Zaprowski (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville North) earned his first win as a Blue Devil with four innings of relief work. He's 1-0 with one save this spring.

Fredonia's top hitter was junior Liam Kelly (Buffalo, N.Y./Bishop Timon), who had four hits, including a single in the ninth ahead of the game-winning hit by his former high school teammate.

The comeback began with a run in the sixth and a three-run seventh. Danahy brought in the sixth-inning run with a fielder's choice following back-to-back singles by Kelly and Michael Prentice (West Seneca, N.Y./St. Francis).

The seventh-inning uprising began with a lead-off single by Joshua Crocetti (Rochester, N.Y.), followed by an RBI double by Zaprowski and an RBI single by Kyle Sherman (North Collins, N.Y./North Collins). After a Medaille pitching change, Ciro Frontale (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) singled ahead of an RBI single by Kelly.

Fredonia's first run came in the fourth inning, the result of singles by Kelly, Danahy, and Alexio Medina (Alden, N.Y./Iroquois).

Four different players had two hits each for the Mavericks (7-17), who left 13 runners stranded.

The Blue Devils have a with a three-game SUNYAC series at Brockport, starting with a single game 3 p.m. Friday, followed by a doubleheader Saturday.
