ALFRED, N.Y. – The women's tennis team fell 6-3 to Alfred University
Sunday afternoon on the road. With the loss, the Lakers move to 4-8 on
the year while the Saxons improve to 2-9.
Leslie Usherwood and Jill Travis got Oswego on the board early, defeating their Saxon opponents 8-5 at second doubles.
The Lakers' second point of the day was earned by freshman Lauren Rizzo
at fifth singles, who defeated Alfred's Inda Gillett 6-0, 6-3. Ullrich
redeemed herself from doubles with a hard fought win at third singles.
The St. Louis native, Mo, native controlled the first set 6-2 before
dropping the second 6-0. Ullrich was able to fight back though, winning
the third 6-4.
Alicia Kreamer battled tough at second singles taking her opponent the distance but eventually fell 6-2, 1-6, 3-6.
Women's
tennis returns to action on 11:30 a.m. on Friday as the team takes on
the No. 2 seeded in the East Oneonta in the first round of the SUNYAC
Championship.
