In the pilot episode, Riley joins a homework rebellion in an attempt to be more like Maya but it quickly leads to a rift between father and daughter.
About 'Girl Meets World', "Girl Meets World" introduces Riley, the daughter of Cory and Topanga Matthews, and older sister to Auggie Matthews in a series that comes nearly two decades after the beloved hit comedy "Boy Meets World" premiered on ABC-TV.
"Girl Meets World" is geared towards kids 6-14 and families. "Boy Meets World" still airs regularly on ABC
Family.
The series focuses on relationships with family and friends and the important, indelible values therein as the curious Riley and her bold best friend, Maya, traverse the twists and turns of teenage years at Manhattan's John Quincy Adams Middle School where Riley's dad is their History teacher.
Among their classmates is an intelligent and quirky boy named Farkle and Riley's crush, Lucas, who has relocated from Texas and is adjusting to life in the city with his new friends.
Riley is still learning how to be comfortable in her own skin and often turns to her parents for guidance. Best friend Maya appears to have a ton of self-confidence but often leans on the Matthews family when she struggles over her relationship with her single mother.
Although opposites, Riley and Maya strike the perfect balance as friends and as individuals - all while putting themselves in situations that show them who they are and who they want to be.
High school sweethearts Cory and Topanga have their hands full, juggling their careers and the needs of their almost teenaged daughter and precocious five-year-old, Auggie. Cory must walk a thin line between being Riley's dad and teacher while also allowing her to explore her world and make her own mistakes. Topanga, a loving and devoted mother, searches for a way to balance the demands of her successful law practice with the needs of her family and ultimately becomes involved in an interesting business venture.
Starring are Rowan Blanchard as Riley Matthews, Sabrina Carpenter as Maya, Peyton Meyers as Lucas Friar, August Maturo as Auggie Matthews, and Danielle Fishel and Ben Savage reprising the "Cory and Topanga" roles they made famous in ABC's hugely-popular sitcom "Boy Meets World" (1993-2000).
The series was created by Michael Jacobs ("Boy Meets World," "Dinosaurs," "My Two Dads," "Charles In Charge") and April Kelly ("Boy Meets World"). The writing team is comprised of Mark Blutman, Jeff Menell and Matthew Nelson (from "Boy Meets World") and Cindy Fang, Lauren Otero and Randi Barnes.
Michael Jacobs is the executive producer.
