Rochester blanks Blue Devils twice

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Fredonia dropped both ends of a non-conference doubleheader Tuesday to the University of Rochester, 8-0 and 3-0.

The  Blue Devils (6-16) managed just three hits in Game 1, singles by senior Alyssa Morgan (Homer, N.Y./Homer), senior Madeline Medina (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg), and junior Erin Mushtare (Oneonta, N.Y./Oneonta). They put two runners on base in the first and third innings, yet could not come up with a key hit.

Freshman Emily Shellenberger (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower Catholic) was the losing pitcher.

In Game 2, freshman right-hander Erika Whitney (Harpursville, N.Y./Harpursville) have up three unearned runs in the first inning, and shut out the Yellowjackets (17-17) the rest of the way. Her teammates again managed just three hits, a single by sophomore Lauren Pixley (Hamburg, N.Y./Frontier) leading off the third, and back-to-back two singles in the seventh by Morgan and sophomore Katelyn Dennis (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder).

The Blue Devils return to SUNYAC competition with a doubleheader noon Saturday at Buffalo State.
