First Period Blowout Powers Lakers to Victory

CANTON, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's lacrosse team downed SUNY Canton 19-4 Tuesday afternoon on the road. With the win, the Lakers improve to 5-7 while the Kangaroos fall to 5-6.

The Lakers dominated the start of the game, racking up 10 goals in the opening period. Freshman Ryan Jelen led the team, recording a hat trick in the first 14 minutes of the game. Jarrod Wilkom also scored multiple goals in the first stanza (2) while Bobby Emerson, Zach Anderson, Mark Frega, Luke Krizman and Adam Burlew all pitched in one. Oswego continued to display it's offense through the first half, taking a 13-2 lead into the intermission.

After scoring a season-high 13 goals in the first half, the Lakers didn't take the foot off the pedal.
Oswego tacked on six more goals, while holding the 'Roos to just three, securing the 19-5 victory.

At the conclusion of the game, Oswego had 15 different players record a point including five from Jelen (4G, 1A) and four from Anderson (2G, 2A). Bailey Grenga, Andrew Brennan and Christian Nairy all were able to record their first goals of the year as well.

Troy Calkin got the call between the pipes for Oswego, stopping a season-high eight saves. This is also the Endicott, N.Y. native's first carer win.

Chase Izyk had an impressive day at the face off 'x' winning 18 of his 20 face off attempts, a new career-high for the sophomore.

Men's lacrosse will return to action at 1 p.m. on Saturday as the team hosts Brockport at Laker Turf Stadium for Senior Day.
