JANUARY WEEKDAY CLASSES FOR YOUNG CHILDREN

NEW: NATURE SERIES PROGRAMS FOR YOUNG PEOPLE

(6-week classes - 2 sessions available)

Children and parents or caregivers come for an hour of nature fun. Dress for outdoor activity. Except in extreme weather conditions, a portion of each class is spent outdoors.

PRE-REGISTRATION & PRE-PAYMENT REQUIRED. Tuition per 6-week session: Members: $50 per child.  Non-members: $90 per child.

WILD ENCOUNTERS STORYTIME (3–5 YEARS OLD)

MON, 1:30-2:30PM // (SESSION 1 - Jan 6, 13, 20, 27, Feb 3, 10)

Nature discovery for youngsters, with a parent or caregiver. Enjoy a nature-themed story and discover the wonders of nature while exploring fields, forests, or landscaped grounds. Let your imagination run wild!

MOTHER NATURE'S STORYTIME (2-4 years old):

WED, 10-11AM // (SESSION 1 - Jan 8, 15, 22, 29, Feb 5, 12)

Children, with parent or caregiver can enjoy Winter days at the Center with nature-themed stories, nature walks, live animals and/or crafts.

WEEKLY FITNESS CLASSES FOR ADULTS

Join us for our weekly classes for adults. Classes held indoors until Spring. No pre-registration or pre-payment required. Classes start promptly. Purchase discount passes at class or at the GNC. For more information, call us at 914.723.3470 during business hours.

JANUARY EVENING PROGRAM FOR ADULTS AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS:

WED, JAN 8, 7PM REFRESHMENTS / 7:30PM PROGRAM - BUILDING A BETTER FUTURE NOW: REDESIGNING OUR REGIONAL ENERGY AND TRANSPORTATION STRUCTURE, AND HOW YOU CAN BE INVOLVED! Decentralized energy, walkable communities---The framework for shifting to a sustainable economy and lifestyle right here in Westchester is HAPPENING NOW!  Come find out about how local municipalities are collaborating to: save tax dollars by improving municipal energy efficiency; make it easier for property owners to install their own alternative energy system; and provide more walkable and bike-able streets in our communities.  Nina Orville, Director of the Southern Westchester Energy Action Consortium (SWEAC) will report on some of the most exciting sustainability initiatives in our region and tell you how you can be involved.

Program presented in partnership with the Sierra Club Lower Hudson Group; designed for adults and high school students. FREE and handicapped accessible.

WEEKLY SUNDAY WALKS FOR ALL AGES

NEW: TEACHING TRAILS: A COMMUNITY PATH FOR ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION

(with support from Con Edison)

EVERY SUNDAY AT 11:30AM (JAN 5, 12, 19, 26)

Join us for a Guided Trail Experience through the woodland forest. Maybe you'll discover who left that track, which tree makes the best animal home, or which plant makes its own heat to help melt through the late winter ice!  Program runs approximately 30 minutes. FREE

JANUARY WEEKEND PROGRAMS

All program fees are per person and include admission to indoor exhibits and Animal Museum. Space is limited; pre-payment and pre-registration are required for some events. Admittance closes 15 minutes after the start of the program.

SAT, JAN 4, 2PM - WILD MOSAICS

Feeling creative? Come make your own 'WILD' mosaic using natural materials. Let nature be your guide as you let your natural side mix with your artsy side and see what masterpiece you can create. Members $5; Non-Members $8

SAT, JAN 11, 6PM - WHOO's THERE? OWL PROWL

Not to be missed- this fun and informative program about will have you meeting owls up close, learning about their unique behaviors and then culminating with a night hike through the forest- looking and listening for our nocturnal neighbors! Bring flashlights! FREE!

SUN, JAN 12, 2PM - CELEBRATING WINTER TREES AND WINTER ANIMALS

Come learn about how trees and animals not only survive but thrive during the cold winter months. Enjoy a short woodlands nature walk and a visit from some winter-hardy critters! Members $5; Non-Members $8

SAT, JAN 18, 2PM - WILDLIFE IN WINTER

Come for an hour of fun as a naturalist shows off some of our favorite animals. This entertaining and informative program allows visitors to hear, see, and touch many of our fascinating furry, feathered, and scaly friends. Best for ages 5 and over. Members $5; Non-Members $8

MON, JAN 20, 2PM (SCHOOL HOLIDAY) - WINTER WATER

Is there any life in a pond on a cold, winter day? Join us on an easy hike to our pond to explore if, and what, is going on beneath the surface. You just might be surprised! Members $5; Non-Members $8

SUN, JAN 26, 2PM (SCHOOL HOLIDAY) - WINTER WALK

Put on your gloves and come explore with a naturalist on an easy walk to study winter life and to see what animals need to survive the cold. Members $5; Non-Members $8

The Greenburgh Nature Center is a 33-acre woodland preserve with trails, a pond, gardens, a playground, and outdoor animal exhibits, including a birds of prey aviary.  Our indoor exhibits include a live animal museum with over 100 specimens, exhibit areas focusing on nature and the environment, a greenhouse with botanical exhibits, and a gift shop. We offer special programs for groups of all ages on a wide range of environmental topics, camps and birthday parties, either here or at your location. We also have a variety of volunteer opportunities for all ages and skill levels.

The mission of the Greenburgh Nature Center is to offer inspiring, hands-on environmental education experiences, to foster an appreciation of nature, and to promote sustainable practices.

The Nature Center is located at 99 Dromore Road, off Central Park Avenue, in Scarsdale, NY. Parking is free, and handicapped parking is available. The Nature Center’s grounds are open daily dawn to dusk throughout the year. The Center’s indoor exhibits are open daily (except CLOSED Fridays and a few holidays, including Thursday, November 28), 9:30AM - 4:30PM on weekdays and 10AM - 4:30PM on weekends.
