UPDATE: Coast Guard rescues missing jet skier on Lake Ponchartrain

NEW ORLEANS — The Coast Guard rescued a missing jet skier approximately five miles from the north shore of the Causeway near New Orleans, Sunday.

Rescued was Luis Carrillo.

A Coast Guard Aviation Training Center Mobile HC-144 Ocean Sentry fixed-wing aircraft crew located Carrillo in the middle of their search pattern and called in a good Samaritan to stand by while a Coast Guard Station New Orleans boatcrew made their way to the location.

Once on scene, the station New Orleans boat crew transferred Carrillo aboard and transported him back to station New Orleans where he was reported to be in good condition.

"Local agencies including Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries and St Tammany Parish Sherriff's Office coordinated well with Coast Guard search and rescue coordinators to efficiently find the missing jet skier," said Chris Hampton, a civilian search and rescue coordinator at Coast Guard Sector New Orleans.
